If there's one item that will define your pregnancy wardrobe, it's a great pair of jeans. The kind you reach for every morning. The pair that works with almost everything in your wardrobe. The jeans that make you feel like yourself, even when your body is changing week by week.
That's exactly why our pregnancy jeans have become Atelier Melon's bestsellers. For many women, they're the one item they wear almost every day (except on laundry day).
Because style is personal, we designed our jeans in two fits: the Boyfriend Jeans and the Wide Jeans. So what's the difference, and which one is right for you?
First things first: both are built the same
Before we talk about style, it's worth knowing that both styles share exactly the same foundation. No matter which silhouette you choose, you'll get:
- our supportive belly band that grows with your bump
- premium denim that looks like the jeans you would normally wear
- the same comfortable waistband and fit around the hips
- a longer inseam for a flattering silhouette
- a pair of jeans designed to last from early pregnancy through postpartum (and multiple pregnancies beyond)
The only real difference is the shape of the leg.
The Wide jeans
The Wide jeans are a little more fashion-forward. With its wider leg, it creates a modern silhouette while still being incredibly easy to wear. It feels current, elevated and instantly makes even a simple outfit look considered.
Pair it with a fitted tee or turtleneck top, an oversized shirt, an oversized white or printed tee. Throw on our Shirt jacket (or any other blazer or jacket) and you're good to go. Wear with sneakers, sandals, or boots: anything looks cool, really.
Although our Wide jeans are more of a statement than the Boyfriend, they're surprisingly versatile.
Choose the Wide if you:
- already love wide-leg denim
- enjoy following fashion trends
- want your jeans to be part of the outfit rather than simply the base
- like a slightly more contemporary silhouette
If you're hesitating because you've never worn wide jeans before, don't be. Even those who swear Wide jeans are not their look, end up with the Wide jeans (and come back for a second pair quickly after).

The Boyfriend jeans
The Boyfriend is our take on a timeless jeans silhouette. It's relaxed without feeling oversized or bulky, it's easy to style and works with almost everything already hanging in your wardrobe.
Think: oversized shirts, simple tees, all your knitwear, oversized blazers, trainers or loafers. If you're looking for the pair you'll wear on repeat without having to think about it, this is probably it.
Choose the Boyfriend if you:
- normally wear straight or slim jeans
- love a classic, effortless look
- want a wardrobe staple you'll never get tired of
- prefer understated styling
It's the kind of jean that just quietly does the hard work.

Which fit is more flattering?
A question we get a lot. And the answer is simple: both are equally flattering, it depends on your personal taste. The best fit is the one that feels most like you. Some women instantly feel at home in the relaxed shape of the Boyfriend. Others love how the Wide balances their changing proportions and gives them a longer silhouette. There isn't a right or wrong choice, only personal preference.
Can I own both?
Absolutely. You wouldn't be the first. Many women start with one pair and end up adding the other later in pregnancy. Why? Because having two different silhouettes instantly makes your wardrobe feel bigger, even if you're styling them with the same shirts and knitwear.
One feels a little more classic. The other feels a little more fashion-forward. Together, they cover almost every occasion.
Is the sizing the same in both fits?
Generally speaking: yes. We recommend choosing the same size in both the Boyfriend and the Wide. That being said, small differences between colours and washings do occur, and since our jeans are largely handmade, no two pairs are exactly the same.
Which fit is most popular?
Both are loved, but they appeal to different styles. The Wide jeans have a record of flying off the shelves quicker than we can keep track of.
Do both fits have the same belly band?
Yes. Both styles feature the exact same supportive belly band, premium stretch denim and comfort features. The only difference is the shape of the leg.
Which fit should I choose if this is my first pair of pregnancy jeans?
If you're unsure, start with the fit that most closely resembles the jeans you already love wearing. Pregnancy shouldn't mean changing your personal style, it should simply make it more comfortable.
Our advice? Stay true to your own style.
Pregnancy already comes with enough changes. Your clothes shouldn't make you feel like you're dressing up as someone else.
If you've always loved straight and timeless denim, you'll probably love the Boyfriend. If you're naturally drawn to trend-led silhouettes, the Wide will likely become your new favourite.
Either way, you're investing in the piece that forms the foundation of your pregnancy wardrobe: a pair of jeans you'll wear again and again, throughout your pregnancy and well beyond. Because when your jeans are right, getting dressed becomes the easiest part of your day.
